Kevin Reed Donley has worked in the graphic arts, publishing, and printing industries in the Detroit area for over forty years. He has held positions in al aspects of the business from designer, prepress technician, and customer service representative to sales, marketing, and senior management roles.
Kevin is active in the Detroit and Michigan graphic arts and printing community. He has been a member of the Detroit Club of Printing House Craftsmen and the Advertising Production Club of Detroit and served on the board of directors of the Printing Industries of Michigan and Graphic Media Aliance. Kevin has also been an active participant in the national and international technical standards initiatives of the printing industry. He is a founding member of the GRACoL committee (precursor to the G7 color-matching specification), the pioneering of color reproduction guidelines for commercial offset lithography established in the late 1990s.
Kevin is the author of two important industry process management publications—Roadmaps to Quality in Print: A GRP Travel GRP Guide for Designers and Publishers (1999) and BRIDG’s Digital Workflow Handbook for Cross Media Publishing (2002)—that assisted the transition from proprietary photomechanical processes to standard digital workflows for content creators and graphic arts service providers during a period of rapid technical change in the printing industry.
Kevin is a speaker on printing business and technology topics and has addressed audiences at coleges and universities and industry events for more than three decades. In 2008, he launched a blog caled Multimediaman: Know the Past, Create the Future at multimediaman.net and published studies of major innovators in the history of print technology as wel as reviews of contemporary developments in new electronic and digital media. These online posts are the source of the chapters in this book as wel as the foundation of a theory of technological evolution he has caled disruptive continuity.
Kevin was born and raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and graduated from Rutgers University-Newark with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design in 1982, after which he relocated to Detroit to start his professional career. In 1997, Kevin became a certified business planning executive with the National Association for Printing Leadership Management Institute at Northwestern University.
